Some outbound links on this site can earn MeltCheck a commission when you use them. That money never touches a number: no buyer, dealer, or refiner can pay to appear here, to rank above another, or to change a melt value, a payout percentage, or a coin value band. This page says exactly how the arrangement works and lists every relationship currently in place.

The rule that protects the numbers
Everything computed on this site comes from three public inputs: a live spot price, the item's weight, and its purity from U.S. Mint specifications or standard karat marks. That chain is documented on the methodology page and it contains no commercial variable. A partner cannot buy a better melt value because melt value is arithmetic that anyone can redo with a phone calculator.
The same applies to the editorial judgments. Payout percentages on the where to sell page describe what each category of buyer typically pays, and coin value bands reflect published price-guide ranges. If a paying partner sits in a category that pays badly, the page still says the category pays badly.
How a paid link is marked
When commission-earning links exist, each one is labeled where it appears, next to the number it sits beside, rather than only here. Technically they carry rel="sponsored" so search engines and readers see the same thing. Links to sources we cite for accuracy (the U.S. Mint, eCFR, PCGS, NGC) are never affiliate links and never will be.
What we will not do
No paid placement in any list or table. No reciprocal-link deals. No sponsored content presented as reference material. No selling your contact details: the privacy policy covers what happens to data, which is close to nothing, since the calculators run in your browser and coin photos are processed once and discarded.
Why disclose at all
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission requires that a material connection between a publisher and a seller be disclosed clearly, and its endorsement guides set the standard we follow. Beyond the legal floor, a reference site is only worth reading if you can see who pays for it. That is the whole business case: a number you can verify gets used and linked, and one that quietly serves a buyer does not.
